Around 1930 it had a more sedate atmosphere than the other pubs, and provided the Berkshire Hunt with pre-hunting drinks.

“Perfect spot for young and old!”

We visited for lunch with my parents, aunts and uncle and my 16 month old son...
We were pleasantly surprised by the very light and spacious main room as you walked in from the garden/car park - it was very bright unlike a lot of pubs which can be pretty dingy on a winters day!

There were a lot of toys in one corner (including a play kitchen) and my son was delighted by all the new things to play with! The menu was extensive, lots of choice and even a seniors 2 course lunch for the olds which went down well! They even do free food for under 2’s which is great when it’s hit or miss whether mine will eat much. They asked if we wanted his food out first and they provided his meal while we were waiting for ours which was perfect as we were running a bit late to get to lunch! All meals were very nice and the pudding that came with the seniors lunch was lovely and homemade (as was my lasagne).

To top it all off the staff were very helpful and friendly and they even have an expansive garden play area with baby swings which we had a quick go on before leaving! All in all a very lovely find that I’m sure we will come back to especially in the summer when the kids playground play area swings, climbing frame etc will come in handy!

Very Impressed

Took my mum for a recent spur of the moment meal, and we were both very impressed, recently decorated, new flooring and brightly decorated and new artwork, couldn’t help but be pleased we choose to call in, the food was also not a let down as the portion sizes were large and very tasty, the staff friendly and the atmosphere pleasant.

It was obvious the place had recently undergone a makeover and trust they continue with their makeover to include the disabled toilets as my mother found the seat unstable, but that was the only gripe. The food was excellent value and would definitely return.

Christmas Dinner sorted

We booked Christmas dinner at the Chequers. I'm glad we did. First class service especially considering the number of people who also chose this haven of good food and drink. I elected to go vegetarian and what a great meal.

Roast vegetables and three cheese Wellington Very tasty and what an enormous portion. Full marks to the chef and also to the management and staff who cheerfully and efficiently ensured all were served, there were nine on our table most of whom elected the carvery. British inns are a long way from extinct. Very well done. (I was full but I wished I had chosen the trifle)
